TOUGAS (nee HAMMOND) After a brief illness, on Saturday, June 8, 2002, Elsie Tougas passed away at the Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 83 years. Elsie will be lovingly remembered by son Sheldon (Barbara) daughters, Sharon (Bob) and Doreen (Jeff) grandchildren, Derrick (Cindy), Shelley (Shawn), Timothy, Michael, and Sherrie (Brad), Rachel, Diana and Sarah, Nathan and Chris; great-grandchildren, Kailee, Taylor, Dayton, Maggie, Riley, and Shayna; sisters, Mabel and Arnetta; brothers, Leonard and Chester; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Elsie was predeceased by daughter Marlene; her husband Oliver; and three brothers, Russell, Clifford, and Melvin. Elsie was born in Wawota, SK on October 9, 1918. She spent her early years farming in Saskatchewan and moved to Winnipeg in 1952 with Oliver and her son Sheldon. She was a homemaker, spending her time sewing, knitting and crocheting many beautiful items. Elsie also touched the lives of numerous foster children in her home. Elsie enjoyed gardening, reading, traveling and having family gatherings. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 12, at 2:00 p.m. at the Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. with viewing one half hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. A gathering of family and friends will follow in the Glen Eden Reception Centre. The family wishes to thank Golden Door, Kin Place, and Seven Oaks Hospital for their care and kindness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Kidney Association.
